DMac Burns returns with his brand new single, Breakdown. This track, rooted in reggae, stands out with touches of rocksteady and old-school R&B, particularly in the vocal harmony arrangements. A notable feature is the slightly detuned element in the solo guitar, which brings a unique indie lo-fi vibe.
"Breakdown was inspired by the concept of one or more people transferring their own pain onto others, making someone else the scapegoat for their unresolved trauma. This leads to a breakdown for all parties involved. The lead voice of the song sees this toxic dynamic and wants to fight against the injustice but ends up losing their mind in the process. I think we all experience and witness scenes like this, both in our personal lives and on a global scale. Nowadays, it seems that the structures and systems on which society is built are collapsing. It's painful and sad, but maybe it's necessary. It means that things can be rebuilt. On the other side of darkness, there is light," explains DMac Burns.
For this single, DMac Burns gathered the same collaborators who worked on his recent releases: the Pulse EP and the single Silent Prayer. Danny McDonald (DMac Burns) is on vocals and guitar, joined by Argentinian Matías Saldivia on keyboards. Rocky Russo handles the bass, Seth Nicholson takes care of the drums and backing vocals, and Glik (El Natty Combo) brings his unique percussive touch. On the horn section, Brazilians Paulo de Viveiro, Marcelo Freitas, and Javier Gomes play trumpet, saxophone, and trombone, respectively. The recording took place across multiple continents—from New York to Cork, and Buenos Aires to São Paulo—and mixing was once again entrusted to the talented Victor Rice.
With Breakdown, DMac Burns offers a captivating musical journey, blending authentic reggae sounds with poignant reflections on human relationships and the state of the world.
